April 2013

The RTA Alumni Association is asking for your support in having a noted Canadian filmmaker – and RTA graduate – recognized by Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Steven Stern is a Canadian film director, producer and writer. He was basically the first to bring major U.S. motion picture studios to co-produce in and with Canada. It was a movement that fired up the film industry in Canada and helped to motivate the creation of thriving studio centres in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

In 2012, he was honored as one of the first inductees to the RTA Wall of Fame.

Mr. Stern gave first-time leading roles in motion pictures to Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves, Jaclyn Smith, Timothy Hutton and Kim Basinger. With a keen eye for talent and the willingness to go to bat for them, Steven Stern has helped many actors get their first opportunity to prove themselves worthy of success and for many… stardom.

He has made over 50 motion pictures with Hollywood legends like Kirk Douglas, Edward G. Robinson, Rita Moreno, Art Carney, Michael Douglas, Tony Curtis and Van Johnson; as well as Bill Cosby, Christopher Reeve, Tommy Lee Jones and Richard Thomas to name a few. A great number of his films were produced in Canada offering our talent an abundance of industry work opportunities. As you can surmise by now, Steven’s has been a long, triumphant and star studded career. It is time that the Canadian film industry recognized Steven Stern’s contribution to its great success by offering him a place on “The Walk of Fame.”

To nominate Steven, all you need to do is click on the Walk of Fame link below and nominate Steven H. Stern as often as you can.

Dear Fellow RTA Alumni,

We are happy to announce the official creation of the RTA Alumni Association (RTAAA). With such a strong program and network of individuals it is surprising to think that there has never been an official association for our program until now. Through this group we hope to link the memories you once had at Ryerson with new ones you will have the opportunity to make. We want to welcome you back to remind you that once you are an RTA’er you are always one.

We want you to use this association as a means of sharing information about what is new with you. We have lost touch and this is our time to reconnect. We want this to be a place where you can connect and network with the University, Staff, students and most of all other alumni. This association is a means of support, so go on and use us if you need a little help. Most of all, we feel it is important to make this official so that we can honour you, the Alumni! You are the true success stories of RTA and for that we should celebrate.

With this association we hope to also better the current RTA students who after 4 short years become a part of our exclusive alumni family. We hope to run some fantastic events throughout the year to give you the opportunities to do everything mentioned above.

Best,

Your Alumni Association Executive Team
